Item
UniFlex®
Solid Cylinders
Die Manufacturing Time
2 days
3-5 days typical but within the industry some cylinders can take as long as 1-2 weeks.
Installation
Quick and easy- often in minutes. Can be handled by one operator.
Can be very time consuming depending on application and size of cylinder: 30 minutes- 2 hours. Will require special handling due to size and weight of cylinder and may require two operators.
Changeover
Quick and easy- in minutes- can be changed while cylinder is still hot.
Must allow cylinder to cool down before changeover can occur. Can take several hours.
Running Speed
Comparable to solid cylinders but slightly faster.
Comparable to UniFlex® but slightly slower.
Special Requirements
Requires a hot stamp station and a magnetic cylinder for mounting the UniFlex® Die.

Reuse
The UniFlex® die can be reused and easily stored- very lightweight about 1 lb. A UniFlex® plate can also be trimmed, if necessary, and ran with another plan if the repeat is the same- thus running two repeat jobs at once.
The solid cylinder can be reused but storage space is more significant compared to UniFlex®. Solid Cylinders do require special handling and may damage with improper handling.
Cost
The UniFlex® die becomes a "fixed" cost- as the die is priced per square inch regardless of detail. The UniFlex® process is extremely cost effective.
Solid brass cylinders are a "variable" expense. They are pricing is based on size of cylinder and image. The more complex an image the more expensive.
Job Performance
UniFlex® will stamp as clean and crisp as traditional solid cylinder foil stamping without the cost of a customized solid cylinder. Stamping is very user friendly with UniFlex®.
Solid cylinders will stamp clean and crisp. Solid cylinders do require more handling and extra time and attention to detail.
Storage and Handling
Lightweight and thin- can be easily stored. Limited handling due to weight and size. Size and the light weight make UniFlex® very inexpensive to ship.
Heavy and requires special attention to handling. Storage space can be significant due to size of cylinders and storage containers. Due to size and weight shipping can be expensive.
Product Size
Size of plate is determined by image and the repeat. It is not necessary to make the plate the entire length of the cylinder (minimum 3")- just what accommodates the image- thus a cost savings because the price of the plate is based on square inches.
The size of the cylinder is determined by the specifications of the machine which will run the cylinder and the repeat. Regardless of a one-up or multi-up, the length of the cylinder can not be changed and must be made to machine specifications- even for small one-across images. The pricing is based on image complexity and size of cylinder.
